Waiotemarama Community Trapping Project

Started in October 2019 within the kaupapa of the Waimamaku He Ripo Kau collective, the project installed forty DOC 200 traps along Waiotemarama Gorge Rd and Smoothy Rd which are on the edge of the Waima Forest. 

Ongoing trap checks were undertaken and records are on Trap NZ.

Expansion was planned for 2021/22 to install additional overland trap lines throughout farmland and bush, but the landownership changed and expansion halted in 2022.  Traps have been brought in for maintenance and planned redeployment during 2024.
