Acadia Rd Paparoa : COMPLETED WORK

Carbon forest tree protection from possum browse, permanent control since August 2020 using 36 enviroMate 100 across 70 ha, eradication onsite was delivered prior tree planting. 78 possums were removed on the first enviroMate100 cycle, 6 hours night shooting only identified a single possum the following night after cyanide delivery. It was shot!.  Protecting the gains is ongoing due to constant re invasion and a lacking of our ability to rapidly grow the control zone. It is now December and 810 possums have been observed dead on site during the last 14 weeks. We calculate a minimum 1040ha of surrounding area has benefited from our work in reducing possum numbers on this 70 ha. EnviroMate100 are now automatically delivering a new dish containing food and toxin every 3rd day. Servicing is supplied every 21-30 days. Target species is primary possums but rats and mice have also been targeted at not additional cost. Each unit is working approximately 2 ha. Cats and stoats could be targeted if traps had been supplied by NRC. We do not expect that the capture of possums per cycle will reduce though aim to maintain no browse to young eucalypt trees in a cost effective and time efficient manner. Pigs are regulary attending most enviroMate100 sites making capture numbers harder to identify, but its not about logging numbers but delivering an outcome onsite!. This site has displayed an ongoing reinvasion of possums at a rate of 1 possum per 10 ha per night.  This 70ha protection zone has now netted 840 possums since August 2020 - Dec 31st 2020 using 36 enviroMate100 and cyanide plus rat bait.
