Tata Islands Pest Eradication Project
* The Tata Island Pest Eradication Project started Mid 2016.
* In 2016, 15 reconditioned, decommissioned DOC 150 box traps were laid on each Island, only rats have been caught in these traps since they were laid.
* Mid 2018, 3 x A24 self setting taps were laid on Ngawhiti Island and 4 x A24 self setting taps were laid on Motu Island, these traps were kindly provided by DOC and evidence shows mice amongst the kills but unfortunately without counters on these traps kill numbers can not be recorded.
* June 2020, 15 tired, but reconditioned, box traps were laid along the shore line of the Abel Tasman Headland with the permission from private land owners. This is an attempt to cut the supply of rats swimming to the Islands.
* July 2020, Project Mohua donated 28 tired decomissioned box traps to allow us to install aditional traps to the islands. After the boxes had been water blasted and mechanisims cleaned and reinstalled volinteers located them to the islands. Some of the mechanisims in these boxes are very tired and rusted and need to be replaced, another project.
* DOC kindly provides all bait for this project while trap servicing is done by Volunteers.

* 1st August 2020: Trash Palace very kindly donated $500 towards new stainless steel trap mechanisims to replace totally rusted steel mechanisims. Being a marine environment the tired and rusted steel mechanisims inherited have deteriated to the point they desperately need to be replaced. Aproximately 70 new stainless steel mechanisims are required @ $41 + GST for each mechanisim, we are looking at a total of $2800 to replace old traps. The boxes are in reasonable condition. Thanks Trash Palace.
